The I'iwi or scarlet honeycreeper is a hummingbird niche of Hawaiian Honeycreeper. It is one of the most bountiful species of this family, many of which are endangered or extinct. The ʻiʻiwi is a highly discernible symbol of Hawaiʻi. Theʻiʻiwi is the third most common native land bird in the  Extensive colonies of ʻiʻiwi inhabit the islands of Hawaii, Maui and Kauai, with smaller colonies on Molokai'i and Oahu.
